I understand almost everything except why the pole is at 1.75 kHz ??

The pole is chosen sufficiently (example: 1 decade) below 17.5 kHz. Thus, the phase of the compensation network is nearly (again) zero at 17.5 kHz. This is important for stability reasons because now only the first order gain drop of the opamp dominates.
