I've been using repeaters for a long time. I have a lot of network stuff to do.
Initially, I put a dial-up. wireless router, 802.11b in the center of the basement, I needed a repeater in the living room to reach the living room and outside. There is no way a signal from the basement would penetrate the ground and a shed to get to the swing outside.
WiFi extenders can, in fact, expand the range of your wireless network. But their effectiveness is limited by a host of factors, including the speed of the internet connection coming into your home, the distance from your router, the areas in your home in need of WiFi coverage, and the WiFi demands of your family.
