here's what's different between the two, you can see that the lines of force are concentrated on the coaxial magnet and spread out on the axial one.

for whatever rated voltage, + to one wire. - to the other. reversed polarity gets N and S reversed, still works as an electromagnet. not a lot to it.

Ok, but that doesn't really explain how it's wired, unless I am misunderstanding you.

well obviously...i'm talking about the internal wiring of a co-axial electromagnet. I have made electromagnets, a third grader could have told me that.

sorry about that, but the actual question was that vague.
it's a single coil exactly like the axial solenoid, so there is no difference with regards to the wire.
the opposite pole piece is wrapped back around as a shell over the coil, much like a speaker magnet.
