Nigel, I went to the point of opening up the back of the computer and I was able to find it toggling by connecting to one of the leads on the LPT port. I know also that it's not just the output of picprog toggling, but the output of the p16pro40 because I only saw that toggling when the printer cable was connected.

Now I'm really stumped :cry:

Are you ABSOLUTELY 100% CERTAIN that you have the correct pin connected?, if so it looks like your parallel port has a dead input pin?.

Yes. Pin 2 of the LPT cable connected to pin 3 of the buffer.

I'll have to try it on someone else's computer.
