voltage range to digital output ?

hello
i have a proximity sensor that sends voltage range from 0.5v to 2.8v depending on the distance .
i just need it to detect the object not to measure the distance
how can i convert this voltage range to either 0 or 5v output only using simply way ?

thanks
 
Is an LM339 comparator not simple enough?
