Works on breadboard but not on PCB

Hi

I have a light to frequency light sensor (TSL230R) connected via a short wire (max 12 inches) to the capture pin of a pic microcontroller. This sensor generates a square wave that increases with the light level. The aim is to count the rising edge (pulse) of the square waves per minute to determine the light level.

When I use a breadboard for the whole circuit (pic and sensor on separate breadboard), I can get up to about 60,000 pulses per min whenever I shine a touchlight on the sensor. But with the pic on a "self-designed" PCB and the sensor on the breadboard, I got max 2600 pulses per min.

I have included decoupling capacitors, use short pic to sensor wire but to no avail. I guess my limited knowledge of electronics is catching up with me.

Any ideas would could be the cause of this problem?

Besides the description of your problem, what if you show the circuit?

Leaving any point unconnected for starters...it could be many things.

Cristall balls in the safe and turned off!
