delay timer

Why build one, this company, Inpower Llc3555 Africa Rd
Galena, OH 43021-9578 (740) 548-0965 makes what you are looking for,

their VCM-04-60ma Off delay timer acts this way, when 12vdc is removed from the input the timing clock starts running (without power) when the time expires the relay output de-energizes (this relay has a form C contact (SPDT) arrangement so you can either open or close a different circuit.
time range is adjustable from 1 to 60 minutes.

works like the headlite timer in your car, after you shut the key off 10 minutes later the lights go off, no more drain on the battery.

i call late this afternoon, sales office was closed, tech thought pricing was in the $40 range with the CA-vcm-1 pigtail for ease of wiring.

they told me to call Chuck or Bob in the morning, items are normally in stock, and they can configure other functions and timer ranges.

good luck
