I have the Picdem 2 plus........sorry my bad I should have said that from the start.......

If its the picdem plus the LCD is on PORTD and Like I said there almost always a jumper on RA1 that can be cut to remove it from the the voltage divider.

Thanks for the help...Ive made a PCB and it works fine............so what I've learned is to be just more aware of ports on the PICdem
