By checking the references in some of these articles you find that it was invented about 1975 and debuted about 1979 and started to get popular mid 80's and 90"s,Iknow this because I still have the orginal magazine's from that era some where.

There are RF Mosfets made, however the IRF840is not one of them. The CGD will act like a short at 100Mhz, and more importantly the CGS will act like feedback severely limiting bandwidth. An example of an RF Mosfet see link.
