Adding a ring light to a 1981 Draper Tools PD-16 'Drilling Machine' 1981 Mascot Tools (Floor Standing Pillar Drill)

Hey everyone, I have a very old pillar drill press from 1981 (Draper). It has a green on and red off button on the side. I wondered how I can take power from the drill press when the green/black button is pressed and turn it off when the red button is pressed?

Even better, how could I connect a three way switch so that I can turn it on and off manually, as well as having a position for automatic.

Just hand paint it afterwards - it will be hidden & glued / screwed in to the plastic adapter, so the finish there is not really important.

Thanks, working on that.

I'm really struggling to implement the design, I have mocked up the parts of the wiring in the hope someone can describe what else I need to do/include or can annotate the following image:

I have added a diagram for the button, including behaviour of pressing each part. The idea is pressing I will turn the light on constantly, pressing II will turn the light on when the motor is active and O will turn off the light completely regardless of motor state.

Lamp neutral goes to incoming mains neutral.

Lamp live to light switch common.

One of the side contacts on the light switch goes to incoming mains live; that ON regardless of motor state.

The other side contact goes to motor live, eg. at the overload; in that position, the light comes on when the motor is on.
