Asynchronous counter

Hi all,

I would like to create an asynchronous counter that could count from 0 to 2291 before restarting again. Therefore, after it has reached the max. count, it will produce an output and will be sent to an LED.

I certainly would appreciate any help given to create a simple counter. The counter input is fed by a sensor that will provide a HIGH/LOW pulses. Probably using some simple IC chips?
