I am in the early stages of planning to upgrade my cars brake lights to LED and I was wondering what LED would fit my application best.
I am planning on adding 20 LEDs (10 on drivers side, 10 on passenger side) to my existing brake light circuit. I don't know much about LEDs so I dont know how to go about starting this project.
here are two LEDs that I found that I was wondering would work, the first is a 8mm 8000mcd red LED;
The description doesn't state luminous intensity (Lumen). The values given in mcd refer to view angle and the power output for the LEDs.
An equation mcd -> Lumen cannot exist for that reason.
Brake lights are normally rated 20W.
I guess 12 LEDs of either kind will be sufficient if you use the reflectors inside the brake light enclosure to enlarge the narrow view angle of just ±10degrees.
