Does any one in here have any information about how it is that the
playstation console switches back and forth between controllers. In other words how the playstation picks a certain controller when hooked up.
There are 2 controller ports, each with its own hardware which the CPU can address independently. The software (likely a combo of the BIOS and game code) tells the CPU which controller to get information from.

How is it then that in some games a player is able to control the options menus while at the same time a second player can also control the same menu. While in other games only one player can control the options menu or any other menu in the begining of the game were you click on start etc......
