The capacitive reactance of the capacitor is:
Xc = 1/[ 2 * pi * Freq * capacitance] in ohms.
So the current from the mains supply is:
I = Vrms / Xc............the Vrms is the local mains supply voltage.
Its required for safety reasons that a 15R to 47R resistor be connected in series with the capacitor
also a 1M0 connected in parallel with the capacitor.
ALWAYS use a high quality non polarised capacitor, rated for at least, your local mains supply voltage, suitable for continous use for the mains voltage, likewise with the diodes.
REMEMBER: the psu will NOT be isolated from the mains supply, it could deliver a LETHAL electric shock.
