How do switchmode power supplies work? Is the 110v from the wall rectified to dc, then back to a high frequency ac? Then with the high frequency ac is it sent through a small transformer and stepped down to the needed level?
There is a good description of the workings of SMTPs here, Power Supply Fundamentals
on this page: https://www.repairfaq.org/sam/smpsfaq.htm#smpspsf
Seems quite similar to how you describe in your post.
talking about a SMPS....i got a swichng power suply....it is from AC to DC, but it had a rectifier bridge and a filtering capacitor....
can i remove the bridge and feed directly CC?
